A police officer saved a choking man’s life, then immediately cuffed him after he coughed up a bag of cocaine.
New York officers Sean McCabe and Omar Rodriguez were on a routine patrol in Buffalo when they stopped to frisk Bryan Ramos in the street, reports The Buffalo News.
The man quickly stashed an object inside his mouth and tried to resist the officers as they forced him to the ground.
But when Ramos started to turn purple, McCabe quickly performed the Heimlich manoeuvre, causing him to cough up a cigarette pack containing a small bag.
According to police, the 23-year-old said: ‘If there is something in that bag I am in deep trouble. That bag is huge. I know it’s probably a B felony.’
After saving his life, the officer saw the bag contained cocaine and arrested the man.
It later turned out there was a warrant for the man’s arrest over assault and harassment charges back in 2012.
Ramos was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and criminal trespass.
