Six-month-old baby dies after being left inside sweltering car for NINE HOURS when his dad went to work forgot to take him to nursery and went to work

Temperature inside the car topped 60C outside Walmart store in Texas

A SIX-month-old baby has died after his father forgot to drop him off at nursery before work and left in a hot car for almost NINE hours.

Police said the father arrived for his shift at a Walmart supermarket at 6.15am on Friday and left his car in the car park outside as temperatures topped 38C (100F).

When he finished work at 3.09pm he was “distraught” to see his son in the back of the vehicle in Helotes, near San Antonio, Texas.

The temperature inside the SUV would have climbed to 60C (140F).

An ambulance crew rushed to the scene but the tragic infant, identified by authorities as Dillon Martinez, could not be revived.

The father, who was not named, told police was meant to leave Dillon with childminders on the way to work but forgot and did not notice he was in the back when he arrived at the store.

He was extremely upset after finding his son dead and was taken to hospital with heart pains and elevated blood pressure, according to US reports.

The District Attorney will decide if charges will be filed in the case.

It was the 27th death of a child in hot cars in the US so far this year, according to a safety campaign group.

Last year, a total of 25 children died after being left in hot cars.

Experts say temperatures in parked cars can be 20 degrees higher than outside.
